TAKING UP THE CHALLENGES OF POPE FRANCIS’ ENCYCLICAL LAUDATO SI’…
The 2019 Laudato sì Challenge seeks to prevent forced displacement by empowering one million families to remain in their homes by 2021—supporting the vision of the Sustainable Development Goals “as a human dignity narrative, that leaves no one behind.”
By focusing on prevention, we are addressing forced displacement at its root causes: poverty, persecution, conflict—and environmental degradation.
VISION
Taking up the challenges of Pope’s Francis’ encyclical Laudato si’, The 2019 Laudato sì Challenge seeks to prevent forced displacement by empowering one million families to “be the protagonist in their own solution” by 2021—supporting the vision of the Sustainable Development Goals “as a human dignity narrative, that leaves no one behind.” With an emphasis on prevention, we seek to address the root causes of forced displacement: poverty, persecution, conflict—and environmental degradation.
MISSION
To realize the LSC19 vision by establishing and accelerating 20 new, specific and measurable “Commitments to Impact”, by catalyzing 30 new public/private/faith sector partnerships and by driving 100% participation—of time, treasure and/or talent—at our annual event in Rome.
MODEL
The Laudato si’ Challenge (LSC) convenes leaders from across sectors—specifically private, public and faith—to drive action focusing on the crisis of forced displacement. Rather than directly implementing projects, LSC facilitates action by helping those in its ecosystem connect, collaborate, and develop Commitments to Impact which are new, specific, and measurable initiatives that address the crisis of forced displacement.
